Home/Verification

The verification layer.

The strongest innovation here is not another certificate. It is a credible, traceable academic record — one a reader can interrogate.

The chain of custody

How a contribution becomes a record.

Four steps, and a fifth outcome most programmes never mention: the one where the work does not check out.

How a contribution becomes a verified passport record A student completes a task and attaches evidence. A supervisor reviews it. Only then does it become a dated, attributable passport entry. If the supervisor does not confirm the work, the entry stays open: no ledger line, no authorship claim, and nothing added to the passport. SCHOLAR Task completed Literature review, data, analysis or writing. SCHOLAR Evidence attached Notes, repository, notebook or draft. SUPERVISOR Review Confirms the work and the scope of it. VERIFIED Passport entry Dated, attributable, visible to reviewers. if the work is not confirmed NOT VERIFIED The entry stays open — no ledger line, no authorship claim. GATE Research ethics training is completed before any publication-related recognition — for every scholar.
The failure branch is the point. A record that can only ever come out full proves nothing. Unconfirmed work stays open in the ledger, and authorship is considered only where the contribution satisfies the project’s authorship criteria.

What the passport can verify

Five records, five different kinds of proof.

Each has its own evidence requirement. None of them accepts “attended” as an answer.

Record

Competition record

Event · role · team · result · evidence

Every entry names the competition, the student’s role in the team, and the outcome as awarded — with supporting evidence attached.

Record

Research contribution

Tasks · dates · supervisor · status

Tasks are logged individually with dates, and stay unverified until the supervising researcher confirms them.

Record

Integrity credential

Training · certificate ID

Research ethics and academic integrity training, with a certificate ID that can be checked independently.

Record

Faculty progress

Assessment · growth notes · milestones

Skill assessments and written growth notes at milestone reviews — a record of development, not a grade.

Record

Project portfolio

GitHub · posters · presentations · certificates

The work itself, linked and attached, so a reader can go and look rather than take the summary on trust.

Control

Public / private controls

Scholar decides what is shown

The scholar chooses which sections of the passport are publicly visible and which stay private to named reviewers.

Contribution ledger

Documented by contribution, not by a participation label.

This is one research project as it appears in a scholar passport. Every line names what was produced and who confirmed it.

Example — research project ledger, one scholar
ContributionEvidenceVerification
Literature review 27 papers screened + annotated notes Faculty verified
Dataset preparation 1,250 records cleaned and documented Repository evidence
Analysis Notebook + reproducible outputs Supervisor verified
Manuscript writing Methods and results contribution tracked Contribution review

Why it is built this way

An admissions officer reading “participated in a research project” learns nothing they can act on. A ledger line that reads “1,250 records cleaned and documented, repository evidence attached” is checkable — and a student who did the work should not have to compete against one who did not.

Integrity rule

MeritForge does not sell authorship, awards or recommendations.

Recognition follows documented contribution, performance and reviewer judgment. A passport that could never come out empty would not be worth carrying.
